Nautical charts become spaces of memory, where semi-figurative interventions evoke the emotional dimension of travel.

In his artistic practice, Alberto Storari creates atmospheric images that convey longing, nostalgia and melancholic similarities to a dream, an almost faded memory or, as in the ‘Chart Series’, fragmented documents from a bygone era.  

For Storari, photography is memory, while painting is more emotion.

He combines photographs with painterly materials and surfaces and develop complex analogue transfer techniques on various substrates in order to further subject the photographic motifs to the painting process.”
